Abortion
The most obvious place to start is with manufacturers of abortifacients and abortion-related products. It is not our intent to screen out companies that manufacture rubber gloves just because one would likely find rubber gloves in an abortion clinic.  The screen is imposed against manufacturers of abortion-specific pharmaceuticals (frequently marketed as "contraceptives") and devices that are produced specifically for use in the abortion industry. We do not take a blanket approach to the contraceptive or pharmaceutical industries. Not all members of these industries qualify as manufacturers of abortifacients, according to our definition of abortifacients:

An abortifacient is a chemical compound which terminates a pregnancy.

We also screen for regular contributors to Planned Parenthood.  Regardless of its image, Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in the world.

For a company to be removed from our screen list it must cease corporate sponsorship of Planned Parenthood. Companies which do so are monitored for a period of three years, and if no further contributions are made during this period, they are considered "neutral" on the abortion issue. A company will be removed immediately if it recants past support and pledges (in writing on company letterhead) to refrain from further support.

Companies covering elective abortions, either through health maintenance organizations (HMOs) or through health insurance policies are also screened out. Companies doing so in order to comply with national local or state statues are not screened out.

Finally, hospital companies performing elective abortions in their facilities are screened out.

Example Companies
Aphton Corporation (APHT) is a pharmaceutical company that, along with the World Health Organization, develops an anti-human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) immunocontraceptive as a long-acting (six or twelve months) injectable contraceptive. The lifetime of the anti-hCG anti-body inside the woman's body is several days, which means a woman can take a shot of the anti-body as a protection against pregnancy before starting a sexual relationship or romantic vacation. It can also be used as an "emergency" contraceptive after unprotected sex within seven days of intercourse.

Coventry Health Care (CVH) is an insurance company that markets hospital and medical service plans or HMO’s that cover elective abortions when not mandated by national, state or local statute.

Healthsouth Corporation (HLSH.PK) is a company in the health sector industry that provides outpatient surgery, outpatient diagnostic and rehabilitative healthcare services in the United States. One of the services this company provides is elective abortions when not mandated by national, state or local statute.

J.P. Morgan Chase & Company (JPM) has a long history of Corporate Philanthropy to Planned Parenthood, America’s single largest provider of elective abortions.

Merck & Company (MRK) is a company that conducts human embryo experimentation and/or destruction. They are one of the few companies in America that perform Fetal Tissue Research.
