When Americans dislike a company, they choose to boycott (avoid buying) its products in the expectation that falling revenues would influence the company to change its policy. But, does it make sense to boycott a company only to support it with investment dollars?

Let us consider the average Christian magazine shopper. He or she would never dream of purchasing a copy of Playboy Magazine. However, they might unknowingly be helping to provide the expansion of the pornography industry through the companies they own in any one of a number of financial products including mutual funds. While boycotting is commendable, such action is incomplete, for as long as boycott participants own part of the company in question, they are providing it with the funds necessary for survival.
